Michele Bynum was fascinated
with horses from a young age. As a little girl she
could be found playing with her collection of Breyer
model horses, “galloping” down the hall
pretending to be a horse, or sitting with her box
of crayons drawing these beautiful animals that she
loved so much. She started riding when she was ten
years old and by the time she was in high school achieved
her childhood dream of owning a horse of her own.
She attended college at U.C. San Diego where she earned
a degree in Visual Arts pursuing her passion for photography,
drawing and painting. Although her riding had to take
a backseat to her studies, she knew that this sacrifice
was only temporary.
Her exceptional talents have created
exciting opportunities to her both personally and
professionally. One such opportunity involved relocating
to Santa Barbara in 1991. The first thing she asked
when she moved to the area was, “Where are the
horses?” She soon found a wonderful Thoroughbred
mare in need of a home that she named Sara. They were
inseparable for 11 years. Observing Sara’s beauty
and grace inspired Michele to create unique one of
a kind paintings of horses for the world to enjoy.
Spending so much time around horses
has given Michele a deep understanding of their subtle
gestures and body language. She pays close attention
to details to accurately portray the differences between
breeds and riding disciplines. Her lifelong passion
of horses is evident in all of her works.
Michele creates dramatic images
of horses working from photos, observations, and her
imagination. Her captivating images speak to other
horse lovers who also find the equine spirit to be
irresistible. She sells her original paintings and
limited edition prints. She can also be commissioned
to paint horses that are close to their owners hearts.
